Damask Rose or Rosa Damascena, a fragrance with unsuspected virtues.
The Damask Rose is thought to have been introduced to Europe around 1254, but has been celebrated for its beauty and fragrance since Antiquity. In fact, the flower is quite delicate and has an original shape. As a symbol of love and beauty, Oceau Marine had no choice but to select this active ingredient for its benefits for our skin and its intoxicatingly sweet scent.
Where can it be found ?
To date, Damask Rose is mainly grown in Morocco, Bulgaria and Turkey. The product we use is essential rose oil. Despite a good yield, it still takes more than four tonnes of petals to obtain 1kg of essential oil, making it a precious active ingredient.
What are its properties ?
Rose is said to have astringent (i.e. pore-tightening), toning and regenerating properties, as well as a sweet fragrance.
Its skin toning properties help to combat skin ageing and slow the appearance of wrinkles.
Damask Rose is also highly effective for healing and repairing tissues, particularly for those prone to rosacea. It also plays an important role in helping the immune system by combining antiviral, antibiotic and antifungal actions. This is a plus for fragile and acne-prone skin.
What are its benefits in Oceau Marine skincare products ?
Damask Rose is found in Rose Cleanser, a cleansing product that purifies and heals blackheads and pimples.
It is also found in small quantities in Day Beauty, our day care product, for its skin toning action, helping to combat skin ageing, and also heals men's wounds as an after-shave treatment.
