Mistletoe

Mistletoe

Mistletoe, Viscum album, is a hemiparasitic sub-shrub or epiphitoid plant. In other words, it is a plant that grows and lives at the expense of other trees or plants, but not entirely. Mistletoe takes raw sap but contains chlorophyll, which enables it to synthesise its own sugars, proteins, etc. In Europe, the Druids harvested it not only for ornamental purposes but also for its beneficial effects. They considered it miraculous.

WHAT PART OF THE PLANT IS USED?

In order to obtain as many active ingredients as possible, and therefore a beneficial effect, the active ingredient is most often found in the form of a mother tincture. A mother tincture is a hydroalcoholic solution made from a mixture of the plant, in this case mistletoe, and alcohol (ethanol). The mixture is macerated for at least three weeks at between 60 and 95 degrees Celsius. There is a lot of stirring to recover as many active ingredients as possible. At the end of this maceration, the whole plant is filtered and can be used in chemical, homeopathic or cosmetic formulations.
The leaves or the whole plant can be used.

HOW IS MISTLETOE BENEFICIAL?

Mistletoe has vasodilating properties, but its leaves also contain polyphenols. These molecules are rich in properties. It is these polyphenols that give mistletoe its hypotensive properties. In other words, they help to reduce blood pressure. Hence the interest in mistletoe in Circulate cream.

Mistletoe provides Circulate with an interesting complement to seawater to improve the condition of varicose veins or any problem linked to blood circulation (heavy legs, rosacea, etc.).
